Roots (Raíz)

Since the topic is free and I don’t have anything really interesting to tell, I will use this space to promote the movie from a friend’s brother that is getting released around these days…
The movie is called Roots and the name of the director is Matías Rojas Valencia. It was actually released in September of 2013, but I think now it’s been released like for the people to watch in cinemas and that kind of things. The movie won the price of the national competition in the International Movie Fest of San Sebastián.
The plot of the movie revolves around Amalia, a 26 years old woman, who takes on a journey with her 9 years old son Cristobal in the search for the father of the kid. Travelling by remotes parts of Chile, the journey becomes in a personal search for everyone.
I haven’t actually seen the movie, but I've been told that it has an AMAZING photography work. It was filmed in the south of Chile, which is a beautiful place, so you can imagine all the natural and amazing shots that the movie has. The movie has not only professional actors, but it also has local people acting and telling their own stories in the dialogues, so it creates a really special atmosphere and becomes very intimate.

I don’t really like Chilean cinema, but I think it has some nice movies and maybe this one could be part of that (really) short list.
